Mobile operator Uninor on Tuesday said it has opened 367 new exclusive
retail stores in one day, taking the overall footprint to 1,480 stores
in the six circles, where it offers services.
Uninor, controlled by Norwegian firm Telenor, offers services in the circles of UP West, UP East, Bihar (including Jharkhand), Maharashtra and Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
"In one day, 367 new exclusive Uninor retail stores opened up for business in the six circles. This is a 30 percent expansion of the exclusive retail footprint that takes Uninor to 1,480 exclusive stores ? the second largest among all operators in these six circles," the company said in a statement.
All stores will be full service outlets that will offer all services including new connections, recharges, on-the-spot query resolution and complete assistance to all subscribers, it added.
Uninor was one of the operators whose licences were cancelled in 2012 by a Supreme Court order and the company had to buy spectrum afresh to continue operations. The company now operates in six service areas.
"We declared early this year that 2014 will be about investments, expansion and growth for Uninor. We started this with the addition of a record 5,000 new network sites and follow that up today with our largest ever retail expansion," nominated CEO of Uninor Morten Karlsen Sorby said.
The company said with the network expansion earlier and retail expansion now, it expects a
significant increase in customer base that includes doubling of its active Internet users within this year.
